7:03pm: So yeah, got to London successfully. I got a window seat, with an empty aisle seat next to me, so mise - but then I discovered that even with two seats, I can't find enough room to be comfortable and sleep. It was like, this one time, there was a pea under my mattress. Man, I could not sleep that night!

So I just read/listened to music for the entire flight - it was much better than the flight from Australia, because in addition to having two seats, the seats were bigger, and the plane had better heating.

London. Cold. I went to Hyde park today, but then decided I'd better go back and add an extra layer of clothing, on the way I got a scarf from an op shop. Then I decided I'd come back to Hyde park another day, and instead walked to Lord's (cricket ground) to go the MCC Museum and see The Ashes. While walking, I learnt that I dislike snow more than rain, because snow is light enough that a small breeze gives it enough horizontal movement to get under my embrella. Hax.

Tomorrow I'll check out some of the museums, and maybe I'll get my first taste of Worldwake. Later kids.

5:31pm: Currntely in the airport waiting to board my plane to London, an hour till I board then 13 hours in the air. Superb -_-

Things I have already decided I do not like about England: the currency. The notes are too tall, they stick out of my wallet unless I fold them up and put them sideways. So silly. Also the money is paper money, which is also just inferior, but it isn't like they are the only people who've got that one wrong. And at least 1 pound is only buying 1.8ish AUSD, when my father was there a couple of years ago, the pound was buying 2.4ish AUSD. Mise for me I guess.

Anyway, I'm going to grab something to eat/drink, and they are asking us to confirm our passports and boarding passes even though it isn't boarding time yet. So next time you hear from me I'll be in London I guess O_O

Oh, and for those who someone missed it, I put photos of KL, Malacca and Jakarta on facebook. :)

10:31pm: Jakarta
Jakarta is a pretty crap city fyi. It is really crowded and has incredible traffic. It is pretty hot although it gets a sea breeze so it isn't as hot as KL. It smells. It is loud. It seems like the only good thing about it is that it is cheap, but that is partly due to our country, so jakarta can't take full credit for that.

Walked down to the old part of town, with the buildings leftover from Dutch and Portugese colonials. Walking in Jakarta is pretty exciting, traffic lights are few and far between, and it isn't like people actually pay any attention to them. There are an incredible amount of scooters and motorbikes (the paper said that 700 new motorcyclists and scooters are joining the roads each day in Jakarta. fun). Nobody driving anything bothers to keep any distance from the other vechiles; otherwise you'd just get cut-off, and the only way to move in some intersections is to inch forward until you've cut the other lane off. Now, you walk through this traffic, which never stops.

So we get to the old square, where they've closed the roads to cars so that it is just for pedestrians. Nice! First thing that happens when I get there is that a group of 3 schoolgirls from Indonesia ask if they can interview me about schools outside of Indonesia. o_O Well obviously I said yes. Now some random English (presumably) assignment will feature Chifley. My fame spreads! (They somehow knew to ask for my signature after they'd finished questioning me. It will probably be worth millions at some point.)

Other weird things: for some reason, indonesians in the museum wanted to take pictures of themselves and me (and/or my white relatives). Like, I've no desire to take a picture of myself with an random foreigner, even if they happened to be some moderately exotic foreigner (like an inuit or native american, I guess?). You'd think they see enough white people on tv that they aren't excited to see us in person. Shrug.

The solution to Jakarta's shittiness has been alcohol, internet, and cable television. So far it seems to have worked. :D

So anyway, that's Jakarta. Tomorrow I go to my cousin's muslim wedding. How excitement.

12:30am: Things of interest? Eggs in KL are sold by 10, not by the dozen. Traffic lights work differently; they go North->East->South->West rather than North+South then East+West. I think it works because they never run out of people who want to turn right. It means that crossing the road involves going halfway then waiting. Um. Cans are 325ml not 375.

I'm kind of sick, so I don't remember so well. I have some photos, but I'll upload them when I have more, post Jakarta, pre London.

I bought a pair of fake Converses.

Oh oh oh! Great, wonderful, amazing news! They have Dr Pepper in KL! How did I let this slip my mind? Dr Pepper is the greatest soft drink known to man.

What else? The Colts won again. Fuck the Colts. I will be unhappy if they win the Superbowl, but at least now I won't feel bad about not watching the Superbowl.

Well, that'll do I guess. I think I'll crack a beer (Tiger), some nuts. Take care, internet.

10:40am: Delayed Telecast
5am Melbourne time. On a plane to KL. Tired. Can't sleep - cold, uncomfortable. Considered buying a blanket. Seemed like a rip-off? Instead decided to forego sleep entirely and write this instead.
I'm also listening to my ipod using earphones that my father just found on his seat - my earphones only work in one ear, and I was going to get new ones in KL. I still will, but this still constitutes a minor mise.
Just about the only mise, too. Unsuprisingly, when you buy cheap tickets, you get what you paid for. Actually, that isn't fair - there was one other mise; my father had over 100 Pounds for me, every little bit helps.
So I tried to use the internet at Melbourne airport while waiting for my plane - with this netbook. Obviously they charge you for wireless internet at Melbourne airport. Cheap, etc.
Another 5 hours on this plane, apparently. Awkward. I really don't know what I'm going to do, I'm kind of hoping that eventually I'll just pseudo-collapse from exhuastion and thus get some sleep. Not exactly optimal, but it is a plan. Until then, I guess I'll write/prepare this post, and then I guess play some Microsoft hearts.
I didn't bring my DS because I really don't think I'd have any use for it while in Europe, and I still  think that is true. I think I should have brought it anyway, though, just for use on the planes. I overestimated my ability to sleep. Wearing shorts was also, definatively a mistake on my part. Maybe I'll pony up for the blanket, who knows?
Well, I'm sure I'll include the outcome of my choice when (if) I actually post this, but as of right now, who knows? Nobody.
So, on to hearts I guess? Perhaps I shall return to this little document I've got going here, perhaps not. It doesn't really concern you, does it.
Interesting sidenote: the display which shows the map, travel time, etc, consistantly updates with a little graphic of the plane, a compass, and an arrow pointing to Mecca. Ah, religion, you cad!
Oh, some kind of turbulance I guess? They've put the seatbelt sign on mid-flight. I think they mentioned earlier on that we would be passing over/near the remants of a cyclone that had made land. I wasn't really paying any attention. At least it makes for a change of pace. I ragequit from hearts the first time i failed to shoot the moon. Pro player :P
Time to destination - 4:13. Tick tock, tick tock. According to the map we are over the King Leopold Range. Not really that interesting. Maybe what I'll do is explore Windows 7 some. Maybe it has some cool features, you never know.
Oh, what's this, a webcam. Well I can play with this for a little, I guess, nothing like a blurry picture of Chifley in the dark... it was too dark. Hrm, this wordpad has a little button that inserts a Paint drawing. Dum de dum dum. What to do, what to do.
Music: Muse - Invincible. I'm listening to my top rated on shuffle. I think it is a really useful playlist, the downside is that you have to put the effort into actually rating your music, but once you have you can listen to a string of the best songs without repetition. Pretty good.
i added all the Triple J Like a Version compilations (Yeah, piracy, morally ambiguous?) and it turned out that the good covers were a lot less frequent than I'd have suspected. Too many, far too many of the covers, were really slow and bare versions which lacked, for want of a better word, a hook.
Current music: Martha Wainright - Bloody motherfucking arsehole. This is a pretty outstanding track. I'm just going to take a minute to listen to it. Well, shutting my eyes to listen to that felt really good. Maybe I'll give this sleeping thing another shot. Oh, how i envy those lucky fools who can fall asleep easily. :(

So, post script: the sleep plan didn't go so well, although I did get a half hour. Now I'm in a Starbucks in KL airport, using the free wifi. What a great chain.

John Steinbeck - Of Mice and Men
[Albert Camus - The Plague]
Joseph Heller - Catch-22
James Joyce - A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Tolstoy - Anna Karenin

I did move Camus onto the travelling pile, since once I've finished it I have no qualms about abandoning it given we'll still have a copy. I also might skip Anna Karenin because, you know, Tolstoy. We'll see - I might not even get there.

12:15am: Haha I just reread the TAQ issue I was writing in first year. Man, past-me was pretty funny.

Elise was kind of funny too, somehow she has spent all her funny but TAoC lives on?

Speaking of which, I was laughing at how much I tell people to read TAoC in that issue. If I could go back in time...
